Adrian, you have decided to change your career within PwC and have moved internally from Assurance Audit to the Financial Risk Management (FRM) team in Advisory. What was your motivation to take this step and what helped you most along the way?
After having worked many years in Assurance, I realised at some point that I was ready for seeing and learning something new. Unfortunately – or, in my personal case, to my development’s advantage – we lost my major client during that time. At first, I thought I’d have to search for new challenges outside PwC. A little research showed that, on the contrary, PwC had lots of opportunities to grow and develop my strength for me since the firm really does deliver a broad portfolio of services to a wide range of clients. When I decided to develop internally, it was very motivating to see how many people supported my internal move to Advisory and helped me transition by being active door openers. I had several very interesting meetings with colleagues from different units. Of course, not all of them resulted in a job offer, but each of them was a valuable experience and a great proof of how well we trust each other at PwC. In the end, my already existing contacts to colleagues from Advisory made my shift to that new unit possible.
How was your onboarding experience at your new team?
I highly appreciated that I was invited to all relevant meetings even before my actual move which made the transition a very smooth and enjoyable experience. I also already knew most of the team members when I started which was a great plus for everyone. At PwC, I highly appreciate that we trust each other, it’s really the foundation of our collaboration. And in my new team, I experience the same level of trust as I did in my old team. The planning phase for financial year 2022 is not yet over which means that my onboarding process is also still ongoing. But already now, I can say that I feel so well integrated into the team. They make it easy to feel welcomed, too: just now, I enjoyed a little box of snacks and drinks sent to my home address for an online team event. I still have to get familiar with all processes and tasks, but I’m glad that I decided to take this internal career move and to develop my skills here at PwC.

Even though your experience was great – is there anything you miss from your former work or team?
I’m still in close contact with my former colleagues and I will also keep some remaining assurance clients, so my range of tasks just got broader and my team bigger. I think I’m lucky because I don’t feel I am missing anything.
Now that you have moved successfully to Advisory – what are you looking forward to learning and what are you most excited about?
After plenty of online meetings, I’m really looking forward to seeing my team face to face. With regards to my new job and new tasks and responsibilities, I look forward to deepening my know-how in the FRM topics, of course. Within my new role, I want to become an expert in the project-based and sales-oriented advisory business. Right now, it’s super exciting to gain more and more insight into this new role of mine and to become a trustful part of my team. Being able to make this transformation within PwC is my opportunity to gain new experiences that not only benefit my personal development, but, combining old and new skills, also enable me to serve our team and clients with a high-quality outcome.
