After constantly fighting market abuse with outdated solutions, in 2020 Six Exchange Regulations AG (SER) decided to deal with market manipulation head on: develop AI- controlled trading surveillance software with a warning system themselves. And fast. They found the perfect partner in PwC, as innovation is part of our DNA. The result from the project “Prometheus” was, a completely new platform, successfully deployed on the Swiss Stock Exchange since October 2020 for insider trading detection – resulting in a new world standard for efficiency, quality and effectiveness.
Together with the client, we developed Prometheus using Smart Transformation, a combination of artificial intelligence (AI) and intelligent automation (IA). AI was used to analyse numerous data elements and reduce the high number of false positives. IA was used to automate complex workflow processes.
Patterns of suspicious activity are reliably identified. Using high-frequency analysis presenting these as visual analytics, they can be literally seen and displayed as alerts in the case manager. Specialists analyse suspicious transactions intensively to proactively identify new patterns of abuse. This reduces the number of false alarms and increases the proportion of relevant alerts in order to create suspicious reports.
In Greek mythology, Prometheus stole the fire away from the Gods of Olympus and handed it to mankind. An apt metaphor for the service to society provided by this leading surveillance solution from our community of solvers at PwC and the experts at SER.
