“In a rapidly evolving regulatory and digital landscape, tax functions are undergoing significant transformation. Our Tax Function Operations Survey explores how organisations are adapting their tax strategies to meet current and evolving compliance requirements, such as Pillar 2 and Public Country-by-Country Reporting (CbCR).”
Dieter Wirth,Managing Partner, Leader Tax, Legal & HR Services, PwC SwitzerlandKey findings reveal that Pillar 2 readiness is high, with 100% of participants rating their preparation as at least satisfactory. However, technology integration remains a challenge, as 91% recognise its advantages, but only 34% have dedicated resources for tax technology initiatives. More than half of tax functions report being understaffed, with 28% having no plans to hire additional staff. Outsourcing is highest in smaller tax functions, yet compliance remains a major in-house focus.
Looking ahead, 31% of respondents cite new tax compliance obligations as the biggest future challenge, and more than 62% are unprepared for AI and technology advancements. 41% of tax functions demonstrate a high or the highest level of awareness of the need to align their internal tax policies and strategies with overall sustainability goals.
The survey provides a clear benchmark for tax function evolution, helping organisations navigate compliance, governance, and technology adoption effectively.
